Drawn from life observation of a bust, The Beauty in Their Eyes explores societies’ ever-evolving and trend dependant fluctuations in what is deemed 'beautiful'. Across the world, interpretations of ‘beauty’ are deeply embedded within a culture through its history. Yet between cultures, these expectations are ironically contradicting. For one, The Beauty in Their Eyes reflects upon the idealising of women in classical Western art, and how, these romanticisation affect other cultures’ beauty standards across the world in contemporary times. The craze for pale skin, large double eyelids and small features, particularly in East Asian beauty standards, is an example of such instances of cultural homogenisation. The possessive pronoun 'Their' in the title can be interpreted as the human race, our wider society, our peers, or, our harshest and most dangerous critics- the self.
